Meet our Volunteers

JUSTIN

Volunteer from United Kingdom

Why did you choose to volunteer at Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, and what were you hoping to experience?
I have volunteered at Phuket Elephant Sanctuary a few times, and after my first visit, I kept wanting to go back. PES is deeply passionate about ethical elephant conservation. They truly represent the values that an ethical elephant sanctuary should aspire to, and they deserve our full support.

What did your day as a volunteer look like? What tasks did you participate in?
A typical day included a variety of rewarding activities, such as picking up elephant poop, cleaning elephant bedrooms, putting food in their bedrooms, cutting long grass and banana trees to feed the elephants, making toys for the elephants, preparing rice balls, and cutting up pineapples and watermelons.

What did you learn about elephants or ethical tourism that changed your perspective?
I also really enjoyed interacting with the Thai staff at the sanctuary. They are very knowledgeable, fun, and shared such interesting information about the elephants. It was obvious how much they cared for them, and I learned a great deal about elephants during my time there.

Can you describe a moment during your visit that stayed with you?
My favourite experience was taking food each day to Fah Mui. She is such a beautiful soul.

What would you say to someone considering volunteering with us?
Volunteering at PES will be a truly rewarding experience. It changed my life and the way I want to spend my time. The elephants need our support, and together, we can help them and give them a good life.
